Holidays at Chateau de Villars are very different from other ‘full board’ holidays. A superb boutique experience! The Chateau is a Maison d’Hote (not a hotel) with only five bedrooms. You will be a guest in a convivial “house party” environment, where your comfortable en suite bedroom, the Chateau and its extensive grounds become your home for a week – without the interference of maid or room service (except when requested), but with fine sheets, lush towels, bathrobes, fresh flowers and us always looking out for your needs!
Breakfast starts at 8.30 (and continues until you’ve finished!), lunch sometime around 1.30 with dinner at 8pm, after cocktails on the Chateau’s terrace - the culmination of another day of first class gluten free dining at the Chateau!
So come and relax. Find your own calm. Walk. Bike. There are never more than fourteen guests at any one time. This means that Bill and Kevin, along with the rest of the team, are able to give each guest all the attention they require. And there is plenty of space for you to find your own special corner of the Chateau property, whether by the heated pool, on the boules court or sitting by the side of the Trincou stream on the edge of our fields, watching the Jacob sheep!

We can pour you a Chateau ‘Campari Martini’, a glass of bubbly or a Gin & Tonic from our licensed bar, serving you either there or on our south facing terrace which runs the length of the Chateau and overlooks the meadows. Or try a bottle of local Bergerac region wine from our expertly chosen wine list. After dinner, you can watch the sun go down from the terrace or relax in one of the two sitting rooms. French windows lead onto the terrace from lounge and the library.
On arrival, you will be warmly welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine, cocktail or
beverage of your choice. The first evening the wine and chat are plentiful. Many people come to us not knowing quite what to expect, meeting and joining other guests and ourselves, to eat “en famille” in our elegant dining room. They all leave glad they gave it a try – our guests leave us as friends and are treated as such during their stay. On most Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, our dining room is rearranged from one long table into individual tables, becoming a restaurant. Outside guests can book in for dinner and you will have the opportunity to dine at an individual table, should you wish – or continue to dine with other guests who have by then become friends.
Included in the price of your holiday is transport to three local places of interest. Visits are available to such places as Bordeilles, St Jean de Cole, one of ‘the most beautiful villages in France’, Brantôme, ‘the Venice of the Perigord’, the Chateau de Puyguilhem, the fantastic Villars cave complex, with its prehistoric wall paintings, and Perigueux, the capital of the Dordogne, with its magnificent old town. For the destinations that require a full days visit pack lunches are provided. A few of the locations have small entrance fees.
Naturally, if you choose to spend the day at the Chateau (which is always your option) you can relax in the gardens, relishing the peace, tranquillity and beauty all around you, you can walk around the village or laze by the pool. Alternatively, sit on the Chateau terrace and enjoy a well chosen bottle of wine!
