Holidays at Chateau de Villars are very different from normal package deals. We don’t regard ourselves as a Hotel. You will be a guest in a “house party” environment, where your comfortable en suite bedroom, the Chateau and its grounds become your home for a week – without the interference of maid or room service, but with fine sheets, lush towels, fresh flowers and a staff looking out for your needs.
In the licensed bar you can sit and relax before dinner with your Gin & Tonic or try a bottle of local Bergerac region wine from our expertly chosen wine list. After dinner, you can watch the sun go down from the wonderful south facing terrace or relax in one of the two sitting rooms. French windows lead onto the terrace from lounge and the library. Breakfast starts at 8.30 (and continues until you’ve finished!), lunch sometime after 1. Admittedly, dinner at 8pm, after cocktails on the Chateau’s terrace, cannot come soon enough - the culmination of another day of first class gluten free dining at the Chateau!
When you arrive, you will be warmly welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine, cocktail or beverage of your choice. The first evening the wine and chat are plentiful. Many people come to us not knowing quite what to expect, meeting and joining other guests to eat “en famille” in our elegant dining room. They all leave glad they gave it a try. The atmosphere at the Chateau is always relaxed, never regimented – it’s your home from home.
There are never more than fourteen guests at any one time. This means that Bill and Kevin, along with the rest of the team, are able to give each guest all the attention they require. We welcome those returning to enjoy a holiday at the Chateau again. Our guests leave us as friends and are treated as such during their stay.
Included in the price of your holiday is transport to three local places of interest. Visits are available to such places as Bordeilles, St Jean de Cole, one of ‘the most beautiful villages in France’, Brantôme, ‘the Venice of the Perigord’, the Chateau de Puyguilhem, the fantastic Villars cave complex and Perigueux, the capital of the Dordogne, with its magnificent old town. For the destinations that require a full days visit pack lunches are provided. If others provide trips at all, it is charged as an expensive extra, remember, with us it’s FREE! (A few of the locations have are small entrance fees).
Naturally, if you choose to spend the day at the Chateau (which is always your option) you can relax in the gardens, relishing the peace, tranquillity and beauty all around you, you can walk around the village, laze by the pool or play a game of croquet on the lawn. Alternatively, sit on the terrace and enjoy a well chosen bottle of wine!
