Our ‘Gluten Free’ and ‘Special Diet’ holidays bring you “Rest & Relaxation”, safe in the knowledge that you can enjoy your time in France with no concern about eating in accordance with your needs – and with no danger of cross contamination. Enjoyment is the key to our holidays here – a splendid, casual, country environment and exceptional French cuisine!
Bill Davies and Kevin Saunders have now run five years of “Gluten-Free-in-France” full board holidays for coeliacs (celiacs), their partners, families and friends at Chateau de Villars in a relaxed holiday atmosphere. The Chateau and its grounds become your ‘Home from Home’. Guests enjoy fresh and creative gourmet dining, with seasonal produce, often sourced from the Chateau’s own potager (kitchen garden) or local farms, in an elegant setting and have the opportunity (with Chateau transport) to visit local villages and sites of interest.
Bill grew up in New York, moved to the southern United States and has a background in nursing and medical management. Kevin is British, from Hertfordshire. After university at Oxford, he worked in America as a lawyer for 25 years, “retiring” to start a new career as a fine art photographer. Both are consummate hosts and cooks.
The Chateau dates from the 1860’s – the Golden Age of French country Chateaux – and was built as a private home. Bill and Kevin continue the process of restoring the Chateau and its gardens in the manner of its original design. An endless but rewarding task.
Located in South-West France, in the northern Dordogne, within striking distance of Bordeaux and Toulouse, the Chateau is easy to reach – by car, plane or train. Let us help you plan your trip! Suggestions on how to get here are on our Location page, including the airlines with cheap flights into our local airports (Limoges, Bergerac and Bordeaux) – and you can also consider the Eurostar/TGV connection to Angouleme or to Paris (where guests often stop coming or going). A few days in Paris or Bordeaux combined with a week here is a popular choice – and we can help you plan your city days, as well as your gluten free dining there.

The small Dordogne village of Villars is 10 kilometres from Brantome – one of the jewels of the area. Driving down the Chateau’s allee of horse-chestnut trees into the courtyard, you are quickly enveloped in the heavenly retreat of the Chateau’s grounds, bordered by the bubbling Trincou stream on its journey to join the Dordogne river. In the heart of Perigord Vert, on the border of the Perigord-Limousin National Park, Villars, enjoys an unrivalled location. It is a splendid location from which to take long country walks or to explore the byways on a Chateau bicycle. Guests, who like to bike, have praised the terrain as providing an ideal biking environment.
